Do I have to be VAT registered?
You only have to be registered for VAT when the turnover of your business (your “sales”) exceeds a certain limit. At the time of writing, this limit is £64,000. You can find very helpful information and the current VAT limit on the Revenue and Customs website at www.hmrc.gov.uk.

What insurance do I need?
Obviously, you must insure your vehicle with motor insurance as usual. You also need to take out a Public Liability insurance policy. This covers you for any claims made by the public for damage and injury whilst working on a customer’s driveway, in a car park, in a car showroom, etc.

Do I need a COSHH certificate?
No. Vantage Valeting will provide you with a COSHH certificate covering all the cleaning products you use. COSHH certificates are usually required by commercial customers and motor trade customers. It certifies that any chemicals you use are safe and environmentally friendly.

Do I need any previous qualifications or experience?

No. Vantage Valeting provides full training including the industry recognised Car Valeting Certificate endorsed by the British Institute of Cleaning Science. We are the only franchise to offer this qualification.

How easy is the administration side of my business?
Very easy. Simple record keeping is involved using Vantage Valeting’s standard forms and checklists. Your diary is your bible, plus a simple card index of your customer’s names, addresses and contact details.
Your book-keeping is paper based and only requires you to keep a record of two things: all the sales made in a month (number of valets and the price of each one) and what you have spent on the business in a month (eg – petrol, topping up supplies on the van, car parking etc).

We go through our simple business admin during your admin training. It is easy, paper based and you do not need to be able to use a computer.

When is the busiest time of year?
October to March is usually the busiest time of year.
Private customers usually like to wash their cars during the spring and summer months, but they are less keen during autumn and winter. Of course, this is when cars need cleaning the most. Commercial and motor trade customers usually need vehicles valeted all year round.

How many valets can I do without refilling the water tank?
The 650 litre water tank on board your van will normally cover your full days work before a refill is required.

How will my territory be assigned?
All Vantage Valeting businesses work within an exclusive territory. Please contact us to find out what territories are available in your region.
How can I expand my business?
You can expand your business in two ways:

1. Take on an assistant
2. Control one or more mobile valeting vehicles.
Working with an assistant you can complete more valets. The extra income pays for the assistant’s wages so your business will earn more money per year.

Alternatively, you can work with a driver/valeter who does the valets while you control the rest of the business, eg - keeping the diary, booking in valets, restocking the vehicles, etc.

The Vantage Valeting business is designed to expand easily to suit you. We usually recommend that you have 12 months experience of the business before expanding.

How long will it take to get my business up and
running?

From receiving the initial Information Pack, there are a number of steps which will dictate the time it takes to start your Vantage Valeting business. Providing that funds are available for the franchise fee and vehicle finance, it could be no longer than six weeks before you are in business and generating income.

What if I have any more questions?
One of our franchise development team will meet with you to discuss the business in more detail – without obligation. We will answer any further questions you may have before your exclusive territory is confirmed.
